depends on the judge--if lucky you will get off with warning if first offense but if not i doubt it will be over $100--be very respectful to everyone in court room

Everyone makes mistakes. If you feel bad about what you did, I'd suggest that you write a letter to the store manager and let them know how you feel. Try to put yourself in their shoes. It's not just $10.99. There will be a number of people who, by your action, have to stop and spend time and energy on this, Time that could be spent doing other, more positive things. The store employees, you, your parents, police, and the juvenile courts all have to spend time talking, writing reports, writing letters, making phone calls, etc. Other employees may be scolded for not watching closely enough. The store may have to hire a "secret shopper" to watch for thieves if it becomes a problem. That's pretty expensive.
You might find this extreme, but prices go up for everyone when someone steals. In some areas they even have to shut down entire stores when it becomes rampant. They can't afford to stay open, and that's a loss to the entire community, especially for the people who were supporting their families with the jobs they will lose in the process.

You only took one little item, but perhaps you can see how it affects more than just you and some "rich" corporation.

When I was 14, I stole a package of mascara from a store on a dare from a friend, I didn't get caught, but I was so scared that I swore to myself I'd never do it again. I can only imagine your embarrassment at getting caught, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise, though I'm sure it doesn't feel that way to you now.
