I'm coming in for a conference tomorrow (Wed) and taking the train to 30th Street station. My hotel is only a few miles, but just far enough to not want to walk it.
How hard will it be to catch a cab? Or should I bring a few companies phone #s and use my cell to call for one?

Is it like New York where they are all over and you just find a taxi stand and you're set?

I've gone to Philly on day-trips but always took my own car but with gas prices, the train ticket is less than a tank of gas now plus I won't have to worry about parking fees.

It shouldn't be hard at all. There's an exit at the station specifically leading to waiting cabs.

This page has a directory for the station where you can see the cab area: http://30thstreetstation.com/food.htm

There are cabs waiting right outside 30th Street Station. However, cabs in Philly are the nastiest cabs I've ever ridden.

Going back to the train, though, you will need to call a cab as they don't roam the streets looking for fares. They do wait though at the airport and train station.
