Wow, its like asking if you'd rather eat an apple or an orange. I lived in NYC for years. Now live in CA and go to Vegas often. They are both very different. New York City has anything possible you could want to experience. It also has changes of seasons, and sophisticated city folks.

Vegas is a gambling, partying town. It's in the desert so the weather is very hot in the summer and sort of comfortable in the winter. Lots of buffets so food is easy and cheap.

There is really no comparison. Depends what you are looking for. NYC can give you a sort of cultural experience. Vegas is i big party. But there are also great areas around it for sight seeing (Lake Mead and the like).

Have fun, whichever one you choose; but a final thought: don't go to Vegas in the summer (temperatures well over 115 deg.) and don't go to NYC in the winter (b-r-r-r cold)

I haven't been to NY but I've been to LV and I LOVE IT! I could move there if I can. The good thing about Vegas is that No one sleeps! and its partying all the time... the worst thing is there are guys handing out stripper cards on the street everywhere and its packed... on the other hand I want to visit NYC when its winter. Its so beautiful.

totally depends on what kind of vacation you're looking for. if you're having a bachelor/ette party or want an adults only vacation choose vegas. or if you like gambling and warm weather with desert scenery.
choose nyc if you like culture and architecture/ skyscrapers and a more urban sophisticated feel.
both cities have great world renowned restaurants, lots of shopping, and plenty of entertainment options. nyc is more about culture and sightseeing, vegas is more about partying, gambling, and laying by the pool. although vegas is a big city, it doesn't really feel like it. it has much more of a suburban feel, whereas nyc has an amazing city environment. but staying in vegas is a lot cheaper- hotel rooms are much bigger as well as cheaper. if you can stand the heat, in the summer you can get a 4star hotel room on the strip for under $100 a night.
both are great, just depends on your preference. I live in Vegas, and traveled here many times before moving here. Also have been to NYC 3 times. As much as I like Vegas, I would pick NYC. It's just an amazing city.
