I have traveled from Utah to New York. That was a drive, but it was great to see different states and the beauty they all posses. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Yes.
    I saw all that.

It may be a thing of the past with gas cost.
    Sorry.

No, because I don't know where Washing state is? Is it near Florida? Why is it great "of course?"

Personally, I'd rather fly if it is a long distance. My time is too expensive and I want to get the most value for it.

Yes, lots of stuff to see. Head through Idaho, Montana etc instead of going down. Hopefully you have something that gets good gas mileage or have several people with you to split the cost. See some of the natl. parks.

If you stop to see things along the way, it sounds like a great trip. If you are trying to get to the beach without stopping, it sounds like a long time to be cooped up in a car--by day 4 you'll be ready to be there already, and (unless you are packing six people in a minivan) it would be faster and probably cheaper to fly anyway.

But taking three weeks to tour the US and take a week at the beach--that does sound like a lot of fun.

if you have the funds then yah! but it would be a lot cheaper to go on a plane. I've gone from WI to Mexico and it was nice but too much time with family bugging you. You stop for a potty break and 15 minutes later someone needs to go to the restroom...ay ya yay....

My father was a military man, the Navy specifically. I lived in Washington State as well as on the east coast. I have drove cross country several times and I have to say it is the one thing I suggest everyone do at least once in your life. You see so much driving cross country that you would not see otherwise! I've seen about half of the states and there is something spectacular in each one!

Depends on whether or not you have kids, and/or a lot of patience.

Have you ever seen National Lampoon's "Vacation" with Chevy Chase?

As much as I like to travel, that might be a little too far for my tastes.
